THE JOINT: The Walton
THE GOODS: Sausage Rolls
THE LOCALE: College West
I normally don’t dine by myself, but I feel like I will do it more often now. I had the day off, just had my nails done with a hot orange red colour and was ready for a snack and beverage. So, off I went to a local spot as I do. The Walton Cafe and Cocktail Bar is this adorable little joint on College Street in the West End of the City
This was my first time having a bite to eat at the Walton. Let me warn you as it’s more of a snack bar with pastries during the day and charcuterie boards in the evening so the menu is quite minimal, but very appealing. The Look from street view is very pretty, all white with beautiful large windows. When you walk in it’s got that modern vintage look which is very cozy in my opinion. I grabbed a table right by the front window as I’m desperate for natural lighting and then made myself comfortable.
The server was so adorable and very friendly. I took my time ordering as I first had to stare at every little detail in there until I was satisfied.
I ordered the sausage rolls as they seemed like one of the more substantial dishes for being as hungry as I was and also paired it with glass of crisp 2014 Lamelles French Rose.
The atmosphere was very chill. Playing my very favourite Sam Cooke’s – It’s been a long time coming, which was a big bonus.
- The sausage medallions were flavourful and the meat was moist.
- The pastry was lovely, very flaky and crispy.
- The apple in the side salad complimented the pork sausage perfectly and was a nice refreshing touch.
- Overall satisfying and filling for a light lunch.
It was exactly what I was expecting. It was delicious and visually appetizing.
My server was wonderful. She even chatted with me at the end and explained that her uncle makes some of the dishes including their Salmon Gravlax, which I will be sure to order next time.
It is absolutely gorgeous inside. Makes you feel like you never want to leave, however it was quite cold especially seated by the front window (which was totally my fault). Having said that, they did offer blankets, which I found very thoughtful.
Now the fun begins! I will challenge myself to recreate the Sausage Roll at home- click here to view my recipe! I don’t know the exact ingredients that were used, however that’s where my palette and creativity will come into play.
